The Procedure: Once Dr. Maddahi has determined that CEREC is the appropriate treatment for your case, which might be an inlay, onlay, or full crown, your tooth is prepared for restoration. This involves removing any decay or weak tooth tissue; thid is the same procedure as would be done with most other techniques.
Optical Impression: Dr. Maddahi then takes an optical impression of the prepared tooth. Instead of using that gummy goop in a tray, he coats your tooth with a non-toxic tasteless powder. A specialized optical camera is then used to digitally photograph your tooth and mouth. This only takes a few minutes.
CEREC: The 3D software then receives the digital picture from this optical impression, and converts it into a virtual 3D model of the tooth on the computer. With this model Dr. Maddahi designs the restoration, again using the 3D software. After just a few minutes of his skilled design work, the data is sent to the milling machine, located right in the office, for sculpting of the tooth.
MILLING: Using a ceramic block that matches your tooth shade, an all-ceramic, beautiful, natural restoration is complete in about 10 to 20 minutes.
VOILA! Dr. Maddahi then ensures that the restoration is properly fitted and has the correct bite. Lastly, the new tooth is polished and permanently bonded in place on the prepared tooth. All in one day!
