Flossing, brushing and regular professional cleanings are all important after getting veneers. If there are multiple veneers, I would say more than six or eight veneers, I would get dental cleanings every three months to make sure everything is going well with the veneers.

Cigarettes, cigars and pipes are all bad and I would not say one is better than the other. Since there are no filters on cigars, there could be a little bit of staining and also a higher risk of cancer.

Chewing tobacco doesn’t do much to the teeth beside discolor them. However, it can cause oral cancer in the cheek area because the tobacco is on contact with this tissue.

A mouthguard is a flexible, plastic material used by athletes such as football players or basketball players. It protects the teeth against impact.
Another kind of mouthguard is used to protect the teeth against clenching and grinding at night. Called a nightguard, this type of mouthguard is made of a harder, plastic material.

Pain in the jaw could be a result of clenching or grinding your teeth. You should be examined by a dentist to see why this is taking place. One solution could be wearing a hard plastic night guard when sleeping to protect the teeth and the joint of the jaw against this type of pressure.
