No, actually it all started with only specialists, like oral surgeons, and gum surgeons doing dental implant surgery. Now, there are more dentists doing the implants themselves. Patients should be very careful to choose a dental professional with quite a bit of experience with dental implants.

Depending on how many implants you do, there could be some bruising, some swelling, a little bit of pain for up to about a week after dental implant surgery. Most of the time, my patients return to work a couple of days after their implants are placed.

Actually, dental implant surgery is less painful than an extraction. When you are doing an extraction you are causing micro-fractures in the bone to pull the tooth out. With dental implant surgery, there is less trauma to the bone so there is less pain.
