A waterpik is a helpful device that uses the pressure of the water to clean between the teeth, but floss would clean better than a waterpik.  However, for patients that have a lot of spaces and bridgework, we recommend they use a waterpik in addition to flossing.

On the side teeth, veneers, bonding or crowns can be used to close a gap.  In the back, crowns can be used.  However, the best treatment is braces to avoid any shaving down of the teeth.  Braces are a good choice in terms of closing gaps and spaces.

I recommend age two because by age two all the baby teeth have erupted.  You also want to take the baby in at a time when there are no cavities so the child will see that going to the dentist will not always be a bad thing.
