How long will the tooth last after the pulp has been removed and it has been restored?

There is no real drawback to having a root canal. The tooth becomes more brittle and can break easier, which is why the back teeth usually have to be restored with a crown after a root canal. There is no change to the tooth unless the tooth is re-infected. There is a five to ten percent chance of re-infection after a root canal. If there is another infection, then the root canal will have to be redone. Other options include surgery or having the tooth removed. This is why it is best to always have root canal done by a specialist, as there is the lowest chance of re-infection.
