What makes the gums recede?
Jun 10th, 2008 by Dr. Kourosh Maddahi DDS
There are many reasons the gums can recede. Improper tooth brushing can be one. Often instead of brushing in a circular direction or up and down; patients brush back and forth across the gums can cause gum recession. A second reason can be due to clenching or grinding. The third reason could be due to a bad bite.
Another reason for gum recession could be due to age; as people get older there is a little bit more recession in the gums. Also using anything but a soft toothbrush can harm the gums and cause inflammation.
