I heard the best thing to do to keep your teeth from being stained after whitening treatments is to drink coffee and other staining liquids with a straw. Is that true?

Yes, that is true. The first time I heard about this was from some patients who were models. I saw staining on the back of the teeth and not really on the front of the teeth. The front of the teeth looked pretty good. When I asked them about it, they told me they drank several cups of coffee a day on the job because they worked very long hours. I said, so how do you keep from staining your teeth? They told me they used a straw. So ever since, I have recommended using a straw to my patients. I have seen pretty good results with minimal staining in the front and a lot of staining to the back of the teeth.
