What can I do to fix a gummy smile?

Several things can be done to fix a gummy smile. One is a crown lengthening procedure, which when the gum or the bone around the tooth is raised up.Â
Another procedure to fix a gummy smile is a surgery that adjusts the lip by sewing it down to the gum a little bit. This is done so that when the patient smiles, the smile does not go as high.Â
And then for the worst case scenarios where there is a lot of gum showing because of the upper jaw being too far down, there is a surgical procedure where the upper jaw is placed a little bit higher so not as much gum shows.Â
These are three choices, but it is always best to have a consultation with a dentist to go over all of the options.
