Tips for Healthy Teeth during Halloween

When preparing for Halloween this evening, be sure to stock up on toothpaste and floss as well as costumes and candy. Here are some tips on how to treat your child’s teeth well and prevent cavities after Halloween trick or treating:
•   Limit the number of times a day your children eat Halloween treats.
•   Do not give your child Halloween treats unless they can immediately brush and floss afterwards.
•   Avoid Halloween treats that stay in the mouth for a long time such as gum, suckers (or lollipops) and other hard candy.
•   Avoid soft, sticky sweets that get stuck in the mouth and teeth such as toffee, raisins and rolled-up fruit snacks.
•   Remember that teeth are porous, so candy that stains the tongue blue, green or other colors can also stain the teeth. Sso make sure the kids brush after enjoying their “bright” candies.
•   Sugarless gum is always a great alternative to sweet Halloween treats. Other healthy Halloween treats include keychains, bookmarks, stickers and sticker books, miniature flashlights and fun jewelry.
