Dentists have always screened for oral cancer with a visual exam, with the ViziLite Plus system we can detect pre-malignant and early stage cancers with a simple test.  The addition of this test gives our patients an even higher level of preventative care than they would receive at most dentist’s offices.

Early screening for Oral Cancer is essential.  With a traditional oral exam, we can see cancerous areas, but often they are at the advanced Stage Three or Four, unfortunately, at these late stages the prognosis for recovery is not good.  We added the the ViziLite Plus system to our dental cleaning exams because it allows us to identify cancerous areas much earlier at Stage One or Two.  This is so important because oral cancer is one of the most curable diseases when caught early.

The ViziLite Plus system consists of a mouthwash solution patients rinse with for 60 seconds.  A special light is then used to illuminate the inside of the mouth and throat, if pre-malignant and cancerous areas are present, the lesions will be highlighted and further tests will be done.  When pre-malignant lesions or early stage oral cancer is found, treatment is simpler, less invasive and more than 82 percent successful.
