The Importance of Brushing Properly
Nov 3rd, 2008 by Dr. Kourosh Maddahi DDS
The proper brushing of teeth is of major importance in maintaining a healthy oral cavity. Most toothbrushes can be used as long as the bristles are still firm enough to dislodge those food particles stuck between teeth.
Place a pea sized amount of a fluoride containing toothpaste on the toothbrush. Angle your toothbrush about 45 degrees with your teeth. For the outer surface of your teeth, use short, up and down strokes, making sure to reach the gums and surfaces of teeth. Make sure to brush every surface of the teeth with gentle strokes. Reach all the way to the rear of your teeth and make sure to brush the molars properly since these are the areas where bacteria love to thrive.
If you are able to brush your teeth as thoroughly as possible, in at least a couple of minutes, then you have no need for an electric powered toothbrush.
