A recent study by GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare found that only twenty-nine percent of adults complete the basic oral health care actions of brushing once a day, flossing once a day and having a professional dental cleaning annually.
Beverly Hills gentle dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, has been working diligently to educate his patients and the public about the importance of basic dental care. “Thorough exams are the foundation to good dental care. This includes examining not only the teeth and gums, but looking to the microscopic level by testing for certain germs and bacteria.” Dr. Maddahi said. “When dental problems like root canals, gum disease and cavities are left untreated they can lead to severe dental problems as well as chronic health issues.”
For example, gum disease has been shown to increase the risk of strokes, heart attacks and increase the severity of diabetic conditions. The common dental issue also affects proper digestion as well as contributing to respiratory disease and low pre-term birth weight in babies.
Dr. Maddahi uses the latest in dental diagnostic equipment and state-of-the-art procedures to examine his patients. One such method of testing includes the use of high resolution, 40x by 1600x Trinocular Compound Microscope that identifies the number bacteria and types that occur in the mouth. This fast test allows Dr. Maddahi to diagnose any periodontal issues and signs of gum disease by taking a simple swab of the inside of the patient’s mouth and analyzing the results on a chair-side monitor.
