What are All-on-X Implants?

All-on-X implants are a method of placing a full mouth of implants with only 5-6 posts, which supports a full arch (upper and/or lower) of fixed, non-removable replacement teeth.

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed into the jawbone in the space left by a missing tooth. In the All-on-X procedure, 5-6 posts act as artificial tooth roots for a full arch bridge. The posts are extremely stable and allow the denture to be attached to the bridge in the same appointment as when the posts are inserted, resulting in an immediate renewal of your smile.

In some cases, implants require a bone graft to improve the jawbone density so that it can adequately support the bridge. All-on-X’s have a unique design and use extra implants to provide abundant stability that maximizes the existing jawbone density, which allows many patients to avoid the need for a preliminary bone graft procedure.

What to Expect During the All-on-X Implant Procedure

The All-on-X implant procedure begins with Dr. Maddahi making a mold of your mouth using 3D imaging. As a specialist in this field, he is careful to get exact, precise measurements to ensure that the permanent dentures are comfortable and feel natural.

Dr. Maddahi will then insert the titanium screws, beginning with drilling holes in the bone of your jaw. He will insert the screws through these holes and place a temporary set of dentures until the screws are fully integrated with the jawbone, which takes 4-6 months.

Once the screws have fully integrated, the permanent denture can be fixed to the screws.

Am I a Candidate for All-on-X Implants?

Any patient experiencing tooth loss or who wears dentures is usually an ideal candidate for All-on-X implants. Ideal candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Are in good health generally
  • Have no serious medical issues
  • Are experiencing tooth loss or need dentures
  • Would like a simplified implant
  • Would like to achieve a functional, natural-looking and feeling smile

Recovery

After All-on-X implants, many patients are able to resume work or their usual activities within two to three days. However, if you required bone grafting to secure the implants, expect a healing period of three weeks. During your recovery process, you may experience swelling, bruising, pain, or minor bleeding. While you recover, you will need to eat soft foods until your gums and mouth heal. We will provide antibiotics and ask that you use an antimicrobial mouthwash during this time.
