When you ask someone to think of a great celebrity smile, 9 times out of 10 they're going to say Julia Roberts or Halle Berry. I noticed this over the years, because people would come into my office, saying the same names over and over again to reference how they wanted their future smiles to look. After a while I started to ask myself, what is it about these particular smiles that are so appealing to people? I really started studying some of these iconic grins and there are a few key things that I saw that all of them have in common. I have compiled a list of some of my favorite smiles in Hollywood and what makes them so!
The one thing that all of these smiles have in common is that the teeth fill up the entire smile. You don't see any black holes where the side teeth and the cheeks meet, just beautiful white teeth. Being able to pin point this universally appealing characteristic was one of the keys in developing Anti-Aging Dentistry, because a full, white smile is not only easy on the eyes, it's also very youthful looking. So, in all of these iconic smiles, you will see this is the case; truly toothy grins.
The next thing I want to talk about that really stands out in all of these cases is the shape and the color of the teeth. When creating an aesthetic smile for someone, face shape and complexion are some of the first things that I take into account, because the teeth should compliment their face. Julia Roberts' famous smile is a great example of teeth that are the perfect shape for her face. She has a long, oval face, and her teeth are also long and oval, while Zac Efron's teeth are more square to compliment his square jaw. This is why their smiles are considered to be so aesthetically pleasing.
The last aspect of these smiles I'd like to point out is the length of the teeth and how they follow the bottom lip. It is pleasing to the eye for the bottom of the top teeth to follow the curve of the bottom lip. This creates a very harmonious smile. Halle Berry and Catherine Zeta Jones both have great examples of this. The length of the teeth is also very important to having a beautiful smile. Teeth that appear short age the smile considerably, so you can see in the case of Matt Damon or Anne Hathaway that teeth that are the appropriate length for the face makes a considerable difference in how beautiful the smile is.
